The Bookstore will offer University of Windsor faculty and staff a 10 per cent discount on all clothing and giftware at its kiosk in the CAW Student Centre for one day only—Friday, November 23—from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. “Be sure to ask for your discount before the clerk rings in your purchase!” Deck cautions. The University of Windsor Bookstore will celebrate its grand re-opening in Vanier Hall today—Monday, November 26—with a grand sale to match the occasion. The sale features a promotion of 50 per cent off the price of books that have already been marked down. “Here’s one example of a book,” Bookstore marketing manager Martin Deck said. “A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving that was originally priced at $22, our regular sale price being $6.99, and the final half-off price brings it to $3.50.” There is also a new item available just for the occasion. “A $9.95 t-shirt that has just been released for this event at sale price,” Deck said. This new t-shirt will exclusively be available at the Vanier location. The day will also feature UWindsor alumni Elaine Weeks and Chris Edwards from Walkerville Publishing, who will be on hand from noon to 1:30 p.m. to sign their hit book 500 Ways You Know You’re From Windsor. UWindsor president Alan Wildeman extended congratulations to the University Bookstore on the occasion of its grand re-opening. “When it was announced that the Odette Foundation would donate $3 million to expand the Odette School of Business into the southern wing of the Odette Building, the Bookstore set about looking for a new home on campus,” he said. “The space on the ground floor of the CAW Student Centre was identified as the best place to ensure we continue to be at a student hub. The space will be renovated to accommodate the new Campus Store, which will complement the other services offered in the CAW Student Centre. “In the meantime, I would like to congratulate and thank all the staff that worked so hard to make the move to their temporary location.” Anna Kirby, executive director of Campus Services, said the Campus Store is slated to open in its permanent student centre home in mid-2013. She said the move from Odette took a team effort. “I’m very proud of the Bookstore staff, who worked very hard to ensure we would vacate the old space so that the renovations could begin on the expanded Odette space,” she said. “I also want to thank our partners that helped make it happen—Facility Services, IT Services, and Food Services and Residence Services for welcoming us to Vanier Hall.” — article and photo by Autumn Tousignant

The University Bookstore’s temporary home in Vanier Hall may mean some cramped quarters at the beginning of the semester, says marketing coordinator Martin Deck. He advises students who have already registered for their winter courses to think ahead and purchase their texts before heading home for the holidays. “If it gets too crowded during the start of next semester, we may need to restrict access to the store, meaning a line-up for patrons to get in,” he says. “I hope that students will avoid the rush by coming in once their exams are completed.” The Bookstore will remain open through December 21 and has already stocked texts required for Winter 2013 courses, says Deck.
